Characteristics of crisis management in the protection of the natural environment

Abstract

Prevention of threats to the environment is a complex and multifaceted problem. To stop the process of destroying natural resources, a coherent and long-term European environmental policy is needed, implemented consistently at the state and local level. Most often, local self-government authorities face threats to the natural environment. The article aims to characterise crisis management in environmental protection, discuss basic concepts, types of threats and types of crisis management, as well as organisation of a crisis management system in environmental protection in Poland. In conclusion, the author states that crisis management is a recognition of threats, their types, and planning of action in cases of their occurrence and control of their proper course. An important element of these activities is education and information on the state of threats and environmental protection as well as possible threats resulting mainly from pollution of air, water and soil, floods and fires.
