The level of innovation of the Polish economy compared with other European Union countries

Abstract

Innovations are the key factor in economic development. The innovative position of the economy provides a foundation for further development. One of the goals of the Lisbon Strategy is to create a knowledge-based, competitive and dynamic European Union, capable of sustainable development and offering more jobs to the world economy. The European Innovation Ranking aims to monitor the implementation of the intended goal by verifying the level of innovation of the Member States of the European Union. The assessment of the state of the economy is based on a group of indicators that allow comparison of results between individual countries over time. The article presents the results of innovation of the Polish economy published by the European Commission for the years 2011 and 2018 in comparison with other European Union countries. Based on the data, the authors try to assess the current state and indicate directions of further changes.
