Call for articles submissions for the next issue of “Civitas Hominibus”
The Philosophical and Social Yearbook “Civitas Hominibus” editors invite you to submit articles for the 20th issue entitled “Faces of Change. Development and pseudo-development in the modern world.”
The life of a modern man is determined by chance. It appears in all spheres of functioning, takes various forms, and its intensity seems exceptionally high and requires increasing adaptive abilities. The response to changes in the external world is change generated within ourselves and the systems in which we live. It changes our view of ourselves and the world, modifying attitudes, needs, and behaviours. Under its influence, development often occurs – a process that transforms ourselves and our surroundings from more uncomplicated to more complex forms, from lower to higher, perfect, and valuable forms. Development understood in this way is usually positively perceived socially and, in many situations, even forced as a process that potentially improves the efficiency and effectiveness of our functioning – for example, in the work environment. Changes are often triggered in teams, systems of institutions, or macrostructures – expecting developmental changes and the emergence of new, better quality. The process of change usually involves reevaluating the current vision of reality and the goals that have been undertaken. However, the anticipated change effort may also generate resistance, rejection of new perspectives, or taking actions that pretend to be development.
The increasingly noticed development pressure, based on an inadequate pace of change and maximization of its calculated effects, is associated with the risk of pseudo-development – an impressive phenomenon that disintegrates existing forms, exploits resources and distances people and their environment from balance and the ability to homeostasis, carrying the risk of crisis and destruction. Assessing whether a given change has development potential or is fraught with pseudo-development risk can be challenging, variable over time, and dependent on many factors.
We invite authors to submit articles that address the issue of change in the context of development and pseudo-development concerning:
- human psychosocial functioning,
- identity issues of individuals and groups
- communicating and building interpersonal relationships,
- confronting risk as a potential pro- or pseudo-development factor,
- organization and systems development,
- social, economic, and political processes,
- sustainable development.
